Sophie Grigson
When Sophie Grigson moved to Ceglie Messapica, a small town in Puglia, in 2019 she discovered a whole new world of Italian cooking. Immersing herself in the culinary culture of her new home inspired her book A CURIOUS ABSENCE OF CHICKENS (published by Headline Home in July 2021) and her Food Network television series Slice Of Italy, launched in Autumn 2022, as well as a small business cooking for hungry visitors (www.trullidelicious.com).
The second series of Slice of Italy was awarded ‘best programme’ at the 2024 Fortum & Mason Food & Drink Awards. Sophie’s new book EXPLODING TOMATOES charts her travels around the coastal instep of Southern Italy, discovering local recipes and food producers and was published by Headline Home in Summer 2024.
She is a keen champion of domestic cookery – in other words eminently practical, and keen on eating well. Her books include SPICES published by Quadrille in 2011, THE STUDENT COOKBOOK (2010), VEGETABLES (2006), SOPHIE GRIGSON’S COUNTRY KITCHEN (2003), SUNSHINE FOOD (2000) and EAT YOUR GREENS (1993). FISH (1998) and ORGANIC (2001) were co-authored with the late William Black and the latter won a Jacob’s Creek Hardback Award.
Sophie has presented nine television series for the BBC, Channel 4 and UKTV Food, including Eat Your Greens, Herbs and The Meat Course. More recently, she has filmed Sophie in the Souk, Sophie Grigson in the Orient and Sophie Grigson in the Home Counties, Sophie Grigson in Thailand, Sophie Grigson in Jordan for The Travel Channel.
FISH, the classic book written by Sophie and her late husband William Black, was re-published by Headline Home in 2022.
Sophie Grigson is now discovering the people, places and food of Italy’s southern instep, from Taranto, through Basilicata and Calabria to Italy’s toe, Reggio Calabria.
