Peter Baxter was Producer of BBC Radio 4’s Test Match Special for an astonishing 34 years until his final run in 2007. As every devotee of cricket will know, during that time Baxter was both colleague and friend to many classic commentators of the game, such as John Arlott, Brian Johnston, Henry Blofeld, Christopher Martin-Jenkins, Don Mosey and Jonathan Agnew, as well as to cricketing legends such as Fred Trueman, Trevor Bailey and Geoff Boycott. INSIDE THE BOX: MY LIFE WITH TEST MATCH SPECIAL is written with the warmth, knowledge and spirit of fun which made his tenure on this much-loved programme unique. TEST MATCH SPECIAL- 50 NOT OUT, a celebration of 50 years of TMS by its principal commentators and edited by Peter Baxter, was published by BBC Books in 2007 and updated in 2009. Peter’s autobiography, INSIDE THE BOX, was published by Quiller Publishing to coincide with the England v Australia Ashes Series of 2009 and was described by the Observer as ‘witty and engaging … a lovely insight into the nation’s most soothing institution’.
In 2010, Peter compiled THE BEST VIEWS FROM THE BOUNDARY: TEST MATCH SPECIAL’S GREATEST INTERVIEWS, which was published by Icon Books.
Peter’s new book, CAN ANYONE HEAR ME?: TESTING TIMES WITH TEST MATCH SPECIAL ON TOUR, was published by Icon Books in November 2012.
