Charlotte Betts is a hugely talented writer of romantic historical fiction. Charlotte first realised her enthusiasm for writing after a varied working life in fashion design, interior design, property management and lettings. Her long-standing passion for literature and history has seen her publish six novels and a short story.
Her debut novel THE APOTHECARY’S DAUGHTER, published by Piatkus in 2011, won the YouWriteOn Adult Book of the Year Award 2010, the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s Joan Hessayon Award 2011 and the Romantic Novelists’ Association RoNA for the Historical Category Award in 2013. In 2012, Piatkus published Charlotte’s sequel, THE PAINTER’S APPRENTICE, which went on to be shortlisted for the Festival of Romance’s Best Historical Read Award and the Romantic Novelists’ Association RoNA for the Historical Category Award in 2014. THE SPICE MERCHANT’S WIFE (Piatkus, 2013), won the Festival of Romance Best Historical Read Award in 2013. It was followed by THE CHATEAU ON THE LAKE, set at the time of the French Revolution, (2014), A DRESSMAKER’S SECRET (2017) and THE PALACE OF LOST DREAMS (2018) is set within the political turmoil of eighteenth century India and was published by Piatkus in 2018.
Charlotte’s latest series The Spindrift Trilogy is set in Cornwall around the turn of the century. THE LIGHT WITHIN US (2020) tells the story of three women as they seek to establish an artists’ community and their own independence. It is an uplifting tale of love, friendship and the power of art. Published in January 2021, the second book THE FADING OF THE LIGHT picks up the story when Edith’s estranged husband, Benedict, reappears after an eight year absence and threatens the community that they have so carefully built.
THE LOST DAUGHTER OF VENICE will be published by Piatkus in 2023.
