Kathryn Minchew calls herself the Pyromaniac Chef due to her love of cooking over fire. While a huge fan of the American barbecue movement, her cooking style is contemporary European with fire and smoke providing flavour dimension to recipes that range from vegetarian centrepieces to baking.
After completing a diploma with the Prue Leith School of Food and Wine alongside her A Level’s, Kathryn pursued academia and travelled extensively throughout Southeast Asia studying economic development. Despite reaching the semi-finals of Masterchef in 2008 she never considered cooking as anything other than a hobby. In 2014 a meal at Tast-Ller in Barcelona saw her appreciate the freedom offered by the micro industry trend and excited by the opportunity she launched her restaurant, Gloucester Studio within a week.
Gloucester Studio is one of the world’s smallest restaurants, located in a Kota Hut in Kathryn’s garden. Her diners sit around a central fire pit upon which Kathryn cooks many elements of the evening’s meal.
