Kate cut her teeth in the acting world. A drama degree later and feeling very poor indeed, she took a job temping at a big advertising agency where she was eventually persuaded to stay for a while. Desperate to indulge the creative side of her character, Kate retrained as an upholsterer and with a little more time at home after having her daughter she found her love of baking ignited, which led to her appearing on the GBBO in 2014.
Kate’s love affair with her oven has always been complicated by the fact that she has a sister who is a very clever nutritionist. Her plan has always been to be able to make beautiful tasty bakes that can be enjoyed without regret. Now she’s on a mission to share what she’s discovered using her knowledge of baking to produce recipes that make your mouth water but keep your tummy happy with that all important bakers’ finesse.
As well as writing her blog at katehenry.co.uk where she shares recipes and tips on ‘unrefined bakes’, she also has a large twitter following and has recently dipped her toe into the wonderful world of Instagram. Kate has written for magazines and has appeared in various other food-related publications and she continues to teach and demo her baking all over the place. Kate has been working with Shed Media presenting some short programmes for a new food channel called Slice, where she bakes sugar free cakes and treats which she enjoys immensely.
Kate also works with The Royal Sussex Hospital dieticians to look at removing some of the sugar from hospital foods and has been asked to be part of a body of inspectors, tasting and analysing the food at the hospital going forward.
Kate holds noisy, fun-filled supper clubs at her home in Brighton and has plans to expand into a larger venue, and is plotting a Pudding Club Pop Up using some of her wonderful recipes in early 2016.
