Sisters Claire and Lucy McDonald are both journalists based in London. Claire worked at The Times for twelve years, where she wrote, commissioned and edited pieces on a wide variety of topics, but with a particular focus on food, children’s food and health. Lucy, also a journalist, freelances for the national press and writes about food, parenting and social trends. She is also a broadcast journalist, working for Sky News and the BBC as well as the Australian news show, The Project.
The McDonald sisters are also mothers of, between them, four children aged between two and five and have confessed that feeding their respective families has proved to be one of the more challenging aspects of parenthood. In 2010 they launched Crumbs, their hugely popular blog that draws together their resources, shortcuts and tricks, as well as inspiration from fellow time-stretched mothers.
Claire and Lucy’s first book, THE CRUMBS FAMILY COOKBOOK: 150 RECIPES FROM THE KITCHEN FRONT LINE, was published by Cico Books in September 2014 and showcases their tips and simple but inspiring recipes that are all about stress-free, guilt-free, speedy food for kids and adults too.
Crumbs are one of Channel 4’s, Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s top food bloggers and have had recipes published in the Innocent cookbook, HUNGRY?. The Mail on Sunday’s You magazine described Crumbs as an “excellent and life-saving” blog for stressed-out parents and Red magazine’s recently featured the site as one their favourite food blogs. They also now have their own ‘Crumbs Food’ You Tube channel.
Claire lives in South East London with her husband and two sons, Rufus and Bruno. Lucy lives in West London with her husband (LBC radio presenter James O’Brien), and two daughters, Elizabeth and Sophia.
