Claire-Louise Hardie, an established Theatrical Costumier and the Sewing Producer for the BBC’s The Great British Sewing Bee, also runs The Thrifty Stitcher, a North London sewing school. The Thrifty Stitcher was born in 2009, and re-ignited Claire-Louise’s passion for dressmaking.
She trained as a costume designer at the Royal Welsh College of Music, and has worked in all aspects of the exciting world of Costume, across the UK and abroad, from Midsomer Murders to touring the world with the Royal Shakespeare Company working on costumes for the likes of Sir Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan and Vanessa Redgrave.
Claire-Louise eats, lives and breathes sewing and loves sharing her passion through her classes in Stoke Newington. Her work on the Sewing Bee allows her to draw together many of the skills gained as a costumier, from pattern drafting, styling models, shopping and ensuring everything runs smoothly on set. It’s truly her dream job, and the bestselling tie-in book for the third series, written by Claire-Louise, was published by Quadrille in February 2015.
