Ben Chu is the Deputy Business Editor of the Independent. He attended Manchester Grammar School and studied history at Jesus College, Oxford, from whence he joined the Independent in 2000. Although he has a Chinese father and a Scottish mother, Ben was born and brought up in Manchester. He has family in the Southern Chinese province of Guangdong, where his father was born.
His first book, CHINESE WHISPERS: WHY EVERYTHING YOU THOUGHT YOU KNEW ABOUT THE WORLD’S MOST POPULOUS NATION IS WRONG, deconstructs seven key myths that underpin the West’s perception of China and was first published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson in October 2013. The paperback was published in September 2014.
Ben lives in South West London with his wife, daughter and son.
