Barbara Bleiman is Co-Director of the English and Media Centre (EMC), a not-for-profit education development centre for English and Media teachers in the secondary sector. She has been immersed in the world of literature throughout her working life – reading and teaching it; training teachers about it; working with writers to mediate their work for young people; interviewing them for emagazine, (the A Level magazine she co-edits), or for the Poetry Station, EMC’s web-based video channel; and she is now writing it.
Barbara has had a number of short stories published and has written a novel, OFF THE VOORTREKKER ROAD, which she began around the time she did a Creative Writing MA at Birkbeck, in 2010-12. It is set in 1940s and 50s Cape Town, where Barbara was born, and spans twenty years in the life of Jack Neuberger, a boy growing up in the shadows of the Apartheid and is now published through Amazon. She is currently working on her second novel, THE AGE OF EXPERIENCE.
Barbara is married, with two grown-up children, Gemma and Joel.
